Filling the Gaps
Insurance Leaves Behind
H.O.P.E. Program | Holistic Optimization & Pursuit of Equity
There is a long list of things that improve an amputee's quality of life that insurance simply does not cover. We believe everyone deserves access to the products and services that help them feel whole again.

Why Holistic Care Matters
Amputation affects every dimension of a person's well-being. The physical pain is only the beginning. Skin irritation from prosthetic liners, phantom limb sensations, chronic discomfort, disrupted sleep, anxiety, and depression are all common, and most of the solutions for these issues fall outside what insurance provides.
Research shows that up to 80% of amputees experience phantom limb pain at some point, and approximately 1 in 4 face significant depression or anxiety during recovery. Standard insurance covers the prosthetic device and basic physical therapy, but it rarely covers the holistic goods and services that help a person actually feel better on a daily basis: supplements for healing, cream for skin irritation, acupuncture for chronic pain, counseling for emotional adjustment, or even a sleep tracker to understand why rest has become so difficult.
These are not luxuries. They are the things that make the difference between surviving and actually living well after limb loss. The H.O.P.E. program exists because we believe financial barriers should never prevent someone from accessing the care they need.
What This Program Includes
Customized Care Packages
Every new amputee in our program receives a personalized care package. Products are thoughtfully selected to promote comfort, health, and confidence. Packages may include friction cream for prosthetic skin irritation, CBD ointments for pain relief, motivational books, adaptive fitness gear, wellness supplements, comfort items, and more. Each package is customized based on your specific needs.
Funded Holistic Goods
We cover the cost of products that improve your quality of life but are not covered by insurance. Examples include: electric stimulation devices, nutritional supplements, sleep tracking watches, alternative pain relief patches and creams, accessibility devices like crutches and wheelchairs, and much more. If it justifiably improves your quality of life, we will consider funding it.
Funded Holistic Services
We also fund professional services beyond what insurance covers. Examples include: additional physical therapy sessions, mental health counseling, second opinion medical consults, hypnotherapy, acupuncture, massage therapy, chiropractic care, reiki, and sound healing therapy. Our approach is to support whatever works for you, not just what a standard treatment plan dictates.
How to Get Started
Step 1: Request Support
Fill out our support request form and tell us about your situation and what kind of holistic support would help most.
Step 2: We Assess Your Needs
A team member will reach out to learn more about your specific challenges, from prosthetic discomfort to sleep issues to emotional health, and build a personalized plan.
Step 3: We Fund and Deliver
We provide the goods and services directly. New amputees receive their care package as a welcome into the program, and ongoing holistic support is revisited regularly as your needs change.
A Community Story
"The support from LLMH has been invaluable. They connected me with other amputees who answered my questions and gave me hope that I was on the right path. Seeing people thriving on the other side of this journey made it possible for me to see myself living a full life after surgery. Before connecting with LLMH, I didn't have any good models of amputee life. Now I know it gets better from here."

Frequently Asked Questions
What comes in a care package?
Every care package is customized, but common items include friction cream for prosthetic irritation, CBD ointments for pain management, nutritional supplements, motivational books, comfort items, and adaptive gear. We select products based on your specific situation and needs.
Is there a limit to what you will fund?
We evaluate every request individually. Our standard is simple: if it justifiably improves your quality of life and is not covered by insurance, we will consider funding it. We have covered everything from acupuncture sessions to sleep trackers to second opinion medical consults.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
No. You do not need a referral from a doctor, social worker, or any other professional. You can request support directly through our form, and a team member will follow up to discuss your needs.
Can caregivers or family members request this on someone's behalf?
Absolutely. Caregivers, family members, and healthcare professionals can submit a request on behalf of an amputee. We welcome outreach from anyone in a position to help connect someone with our services.
